We believe that all girls deserve and benefit from opportunities to develop courage and experience the wonder of the natural world. Our society needs girls who are strong, confident, and can be leaders in diverse communities. The opportunity for girls to experience living, working and having fun together in diverse groups is rare and leads to greater learning and awareness. In 2009, 35-70% of our students were girls of color, and over 80% received full or partial tuition assistance. We offer both merit based and need based scholarships.
We strive to build a supportive and diverse community of participants, staff and volunteers. We welcome and respect diversity of background, experience, identity, and opinion. We embrace people of any race, color, national origin, ethnicity, socioeconomic class, family make up, religion, ability, gender identity or expression, and sexual orientation. We know that some girls face unique societal barriers to participation in our programs and we are committed to doing our part to break down these barriers. We are also working to ensure that our Board, staff and volunteers reflect the diversity of our participants.
We believe it is our responsibility to be a leader in approaching experiential education with a multicultural focus. We address issues of social justice and diversity in our programs and offer training around these issues to our staff and volunteers so that we can competently serve all girls.
